Impreglon Canada – History

Impreglon Canada was incorporated in 1974 as SR Metal Protection Ltd. Founded by Dal Adam and two partners, operations were located in a 4,000 square foot facility in Edmonton, Alberta. With a growing staff, a 16,000 square foot facility in south Edmonton, and a strong client base that includes all of the major petroleum producers and oilfield service companies in Western Canada, Impreglon Canada has built a reputation for providing the highest levels of quality and customer service.

1974

Dal Adam, incorporates SR Metal Protection Ltd.
4,000 square foot facility located at 7929 Argyll Road in Edmonton, AB

1975

IMPREGLON® name trademarked by SR Metal Protection
First year of plant operation
Company pioneers use of thin-film, fusion-bonded coatings in Western Canada
Dal’s son, Barry, begins working weekends in the business at the age of 14
First parts coated were high-wear parts from an IBM Selectric II Typewriter (coated with IMPREGLON® 218)

1976

Dal Adam buys out partners and becomes sole owner of SR Metal Protection
Impreglon coatings are introduced to the oil industry to protect against corrosion
First downhole tool, a packer for Dowell Canada, is coated with IMPREGLON® 218

1978

IMPREGLON® 260 introduced as a low-torque coating for ball valve internals


1982

SR Metal Protection expands to 6,000 square feet at 5812 – 87 Street, Edmonton, AB
SR Metal Protection partners with Tri-Valve Service and Tempo Machine to add valve repair and machining as complementary services

1985

ENC (Electroless nickel) plating line added to service offering

1987

Addition of a 34’ oven for coating full-length tubing joints

1992

An electrical fire destroys part of the building
SR Metal Protection drops plating line and focuses exclusively on thin-build fluoropolymer coatings

1993

Following 2 years of development work with Alberta Research Council, IMPREGLON® 222M is introduced as a next-generation corrosion coating for specifically designed for oilfield service

1993

First order of tubing joints internally coated for Husky Oil Rainbow Lake in order to prevent asphaltenes deposition

1996

SR Metal Protection and Alberta Research Council are co-beneficiaries of an Alberta Technology Transfer for their work on developing IMPREGLON® 222M

1998

IMPREGLON® 410M introduced as a coating for high H2S environments on ANSI valves and fittings

1998

SR Metal Protection internally coats two vessels with a non-stick coating for a Joffre, AB polyethylene processing plant. According to DuPont, these vessels are the second largest items ever coated with Teflon®, the largest being a component coated for the space shuttle program

1999

After establishing a successful career in sales, Barry Adam returns to the family business in the role of Sales and Marketing Manager

2000

Barry takes over as President of SR Metal Protection Ltd.

2004

SR Metal Protection focuses exclusively on the petroleum industry
Additional specialized staff are hired to support the new focus

2005

SR Metal Protection re-branded as Impreglon Coatings to better reflect its position as the sole provider of IMPREGLON® coatings in Canada

2006

Barry (current owner) takes over company

2010

4000 sq.ft. added to accommodate the new production line
added 5500 sq ft Electroless Nickel Plating Line

2012

All-time record year for production

Broke production record from previous year

Achieved ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Certification

2016

Coating R&D Project to apply PEEK coating to large diameter line pipe with Victrex LLC UK and Chevron International

2018

Advanced to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Certification
